North Carolina Plumbing Contractors

Plumbing continuing education is currently under development. These courses will cover a wide variety of topics and current issues for North Carolina Plumbing contractors. The online continuing education courses will include lessons on International Plumbing Code, OSHA standards, Job costs and estimating, North Carolina Mechanical Code, Business and Project Management, and Backflow Prevention.

The courses are being written from industry leaders such as inspectors, business owners, and instructors who have multiple years of experience and a wealth of knowledge. These courses are being developed to set the industry standard in online training and continuing education. The courses that will be offered are:

  • International Plumbing Code - This course includes lessons on definitions, general regulations, water heaters, water supply and distribution,fixture, faucets, and fixture fittings, sanitary drainage, and storm drainage.
  • OSHA - The topics includes in this course will review preventing fatalities, construction regulations for the building industry, fire protection and prevention, first aid and medical attention, and scaffolds.
  • Job Costs and Estimating - Topics covered in this continuing education include pricing strategies, estimating overhead and profit, planning overhead, cost recording, and the estimating process.
  • NC Mechanical Code - This is a course that deals with North Carolina specific definitions, general regulations, duct systems, chimneys and vents, ,combustion air ventilation, and exhaust systems. The North Carolina Mechanical Code is based on the 2003 International Mechanical Code.
  • Business and Project Management - The subject matter of this course will cover themes such as planning and organization, risk management, project management, financial management, North Carolina state labor laws, lien laws, rules and regulations, and doing business in North Carolina.

    These are the current requirements for renewing your North Carolina plumbing license. We will always provide the newest information available and will update the requirements as soon as there are changes.


  • To renew your Plumbing Contractors License in the state of North Carolina, you are required to complete 6 hours of continuing education every year.
  • 4 hours must be on the current code related to your license. Two hours must be in a subject related to plumbing. Continuing education hours may not be carried over to the next renewal cycle.
  • Plumbing Contractors License expires every year on December 31. Your continuing education must be completed prior to expiration.
  • The course provider must turn in all continuing education hours to the Board. The Board will keep an electronic file of all completed continuing education.
